NEFC Maine and Velocity FC
Announce Merger for 2025–2026 Season
May16,2025 Press Release
Maine – NEFC Maine and Velocity FC are proud to announce an official merger beginning with the 2025–2026 season. The partnership will bring together two of Maine’s most respected soccer programs to form NEFC Maine Velocity, offering expanded opportunities for youth players across the state.
Starting next season, NEFC Maine Velocity teams—comprised of boys and girls from the 2011–2008 birth years—will compete in the Maine State Premier League. Meanwhile, NEFC Maine Premier teams (2013–2017 birth years) will continue to participate in the New England Club Soccer League (NECSL) and other regional competitions outside of Maine. This two-tiered approach ensures players at different stages of development have access to appropriate competitive platforms.
“NEFC Maine is thrilled to merge with Velocity FC. By combining our resources, we can provide greater opportunities for Maine soccer players,” said Paul Baber, NEFC Maine Director. “All current Velocity players and coaches will become part of New England’s largest nonprofit soccer club, gaining access to additional programming, education, and support. Velocity has a rich history in Maine soccer, and we’re proud to carry that tradition forward—offering affordable premier soccer with dedicated coaches who value player development and strong community citizenship.”
“After 25 years as one of Maine’s premier soccer clubs, Velocity FC is proud to join NEFC,” said Laurie Holbrook Doyon, Executive Director of Velocity FC. “NEFC’s focus on player development and collegiate placement makes this a natural fit for our families. Their nonprofit mission and commitment to the Maine community align perfectly with the values that have always defined Velocity FC.”Rick has been honored 4 times as Maine State Coach of the Year as well as selection by his peers in 2019 as Region 1 Coach of the year by United Soccer Coaches Associate. When he's not coaching Velocity teams, Coach Rick brings his soccer vision to North Yarmouth Academy where he has coached their Upper School Girls to 4 Maine State Championships.
